A breakdown of Avicii-Levels (Official video)

Finally we have some visuals for the massive smash hit that is, was and forever will be the dance song of 2011! Avicii dropped some slightly odd visuals for his massive banger. And if I’m being honest, I’m not sure what to think.

There’s a bit with a guy going a bit crazy in his office, there’s something with a flower and some dancing….and well I’ve watched the video about 16 times and I have to get all deep and shit on it. I did an English class where all we worked on was the meaning behind poems! To me, a bird flying isn’t a bird flying, it’s a symbol for freedom.

So from the video I’m guessing that Avicii tried to seem a bit crazy but the video has meaning. The guy starts off in an office and you see him scribbling “Avicii” all over stuff. That’s showing that Avicii wanted to break free from his success with “Seek Bromance” and make a name for himself as an artist, as Avicii and not just a remixer/mashuper (is mashuper a word?)  The guy pushing the boulder is his challenge to make “Levels” a hit due to the massive leak that happened about six to seven months ago. Hell i’ve been bumping this song since April 2011. That’s 8 months. In that time everybody heard this song over and over and over again.

The flower and the dudes in the hospital? well that’s kind of self explanatory. “Levels” is sick and infectious, thus the hospital. The guys start dancing cos the song is catchy as fuck and you wanna move when you hear it. (I’m sitting down while writing this and I have the song playing in the background. I have to fight just to keep myself still for a minute!)

Then everybody starts dancing. There is every kind of race/culture there. Black, Asian, Hispanic, Caucasian. The point of that? Everybody loves “Levels” no matter who they are or where they come from. All that being said I could very well just be reading too much into an innocent video meant to be a lighthearted break from money/cash/hoes videos we always see. Hit the jump for the video and a small poll.

Drop some long overdue long on Avicii on Twitter here.

I think you make some good points but are missing some things. I believe when he is pushing the rock up the hill it is a reference to Sisyphus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus

Here’s a guy like most of us, going to his never ending job, never ending labor. All he wants to do it break free but is doomed to repeat it until he gets “infected” with dance, music, and possibly freedom? He then spreads this “infection” to all cultures and races like you have said.

  3. A bit more symbolism in there, too, if you look carefully at the pictures on his desk, and some of the actions of the people. I believe that it’s more about breaking the norm, becoming more of yourself and an individual, and freedom from the restraints society places upon you. When the boss and secretary in the office started to dance, it was them almost realizing that they should be accepting, but when he became suppressed, it only made more people realize that freedom and equality were necessary, and everyone got into the groove. Take a look at the Silhouettes video, it’s another example of the same thing in a different context.

  4. Jody High Roller says:

The plant in his mout at the hospital is white because when the people dip their finger in it and take it it resembles molly. They then start dancing which is what molly makes you want to do. This video is about drugs and the different levels you get while on molly. “I get a feeling that ive never ever felt before” also refers to the drug. Its the perfect way to describe how it feels.

  5. Mr. Mocha says:

“As a punishment for his trickery, King Sisyphus was made to roll a huge boulder up a steep hill. Before he could reach the top, however, the massive stone would always roll back down, forcing him to begin again.[6] The maddening nature of the punishment was reserved for King Sisyphus due to his hubristic belief that his cleverness surpassed that of Zeus himself. ”
this story goes with the feeling that in life its like rolling a rock up a hill
i recommend ppl study this story to understand more
