Robin Thicke ~ Blurred Lines/Rant about the state of the music industry.

I originally set out to write this post on the video to Robin Thicke’s song, Blurred Lines. It’s a catchy song and I figured the video would be pretty good too. Then I went on YouTube and saw the video. That’s when I decided that I cannot, in good conscience do a serious post on the song or the video. The song itself is pretty decent, it’s not ground breaking or anything like that but it’s a catchy song. The video on the other hand completely epitomises what I imagine the stereotypical music video to be. Before I go any further let me just say this, above is the video I first saw for the song. Typical bullshit video with money, women and jewellery.

I then found out that there is another video for that song. A completely official and 100% done by the exact same people video. The only difference is that in the second “unrated” video the women are naked. Someone looked at that video and decided that, “Semi naked women are cool. But you know what’s really cool? Naked chicks!” Seriously, what kind of thought process goes into making an almost exact replica with just one minor difference? The video won’t be seen by many people because it’s not going to be shown on tv or anything like that. It’s a complete and utter waste of money.

If you want to leave then this is your chance, if you want to keep going and read my rant on the state of the music industry then hit the jump.  Continue reading

Jeu Green-Buddy Holly (Official video)

I honestly don’t know how I slept on this for so long. Jeu Green, the guy who dropped the awesome Zig Zag’s & Snapbacks and gave us 4:20 Mondays is back with a Summer hit in Buddy Holly. This track is a world away from what Jeu was doing on Zig Zag’s & Snapbacks. With the amazing Teddy Roxpin on production and some serious flow from Jeu this track has catapulted him from being relatively unknown to landing on major blogs like GoodMusicAllDay. The track has a slightly old school Rock feel and Jeu just kills it. His flow over the entire track is right on point, it’s pretty cool to see such a leap from Jeu in such a short amount of time. If you like the track then make sure to show him some love on Facebook and Twitter.

Outasight feat. Timeflies-Tonight Is The Night (Timeflies Remix)

You do not know how good it feels to hear the Timeflies shoutout on a track that isn’t their own. The guys have been on their Timeflies Tuesday grind but it’s a breath of fresh air when they take a song and remix it and throw Cal in there too.

Like the guys on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Logic-The Spotlight (Official video)

I recently downloaded Logic’s, Young Sinatra, mixtape and now I can’t get enough of the Maryland rapper. This kid has amazing skill on the mic and his flow is sick. The sample in the song is from Justice’s, D.A.N.C.E and Logic absolutely kills it.
If you haven’t downloaded Young Sinatra then you can cop it below. Show Logic some love on Twitter and Facebook.

Jeu Green-Chain Smokin’ (Official video)

Jeu Green released the official video for “Chain Smokin'” a while back but for some reason I’ve slept on it for a bit longer than I meant to. But now I’m fixing that. Jeu Green is the guy who gave us the awesome, kushed up “Zig Zag’s & Snapbacks” And he made a sick chill video for the track Chain Smokin’.  The video is laid back and suits the flow of the song perfectly. From now on i’m keeping a closer eye on this kid. Jeu also drops a 420 Monday’s video each Monday, which I should check out. But for now enjoy the awesome visuals.

Upper West-Slow Down (Official video)

So the supremely talented Upper West dropped the visuals for their track “Slow Down” and it’s exactly what you’d expect from the guys. The song is upbeat and poppy with some nice lyrics and a catchy chorus and the video is awesome. It was filmed by the legendary, Jon Kilmer Studios. The video shows the guys taking it easy and just hanging out and going around the place. There’s not  a whole lot going on in the video but it makes a really enjoyable video. The guys have a lot of talent and their currently working on their debut mixtape, “West Side Stories”.

Catalina Gonzalez-Keep On Loving Me w/video

I will admit to sleeping on this track for too long. But with College and work it’s been kind of hectic. Anyway back to the music.

Catalina Gonzalez is a singer/songwriter from Santiago, Chile. I have to give a massive shout to K-Woody for putting me on to her in the first place. Catalina is a bit different from most singer/songwriters in the fact that she raps as well. And she does it pretty damn well. Cat does a lot of covers but every so often she does something like this track and she kills it. I would love to see her put out a mixtape of some sort…do singers do mixtapes?

Back to business, in this track she jumps on a track from Onra called “Keep On Loving Me“. I have two things to say about this track. Firstly, Catalina can sing awesomely and secondly, she needs to do more rap’s. If you like the track then check Cat out on Twitter and like the Facebook page.

“Misérable” Dave Patten (Official Music Video)

Patten turns into Rambo

Dave Patten is a pretty talented guy, not only does he sing and produce his own videos but he also does films too. Dave released a short film/music video for his song “Miserable” and it’s pretty damn good. The video shows Patten and the obligatory gorgeous woman he’s in love with driving along a deserted road before getting car jacked and beaten. Some stuff goes down and then Patten is…..actually i’ll shut up and let you watch the video for yourself. Hit the jump to catch the video. Continue reading

A breakdown of Avicii-Levels (Official video)

Finally we have some visuals for the massive smash hit that is, was and forever will be the dance song of 2011! Avicii dropped some slightly odd visuals for his massive banger. And if I’m being honest, I’m not sure what to think.

There’s a bit with a guy going a bit crazy in his office, there’s something with a flower and some dancing….and well I’ve watched the video about 16 times and I have to get all deep and shit on it. I did an English class where all we worked on was the meaning behind poems! To me, a bird flying isn’t a bird flying, it’s a symbol for freedom.

So from the video I’m guessing that Avicii tried to seem a bit crazy but the video has meaning. The guy starts off in an office and you see him scribbling “Avicii” all over stuff. That’s showing that Avicii wanted to break free from his success with “Seek Bromance” and make a name for himself as an artist, as Avicii and not just a remixer/mashuper (is mashuper a word?)  The guy pushing the boulder is his challenge to make “Levels” a hit due to the massive leak that happened about six to seven months ago. Hell i’ve been bumping this song since April 2011. That’s 8 months. In that time everybody heard this song over and over and over again.

The flower and the dudes in the hospital? well that’s kind of self explanatory. “Levels” is sick and infectious, thus the hospital. The guys start dancing cos the song is catchy as fuck and you wanna move when you hear it. (I’m sitting down while writing this and I have the song playing in the background. I have to fight just to keep myself still for a minute!)

Then everybody starts dancing. There is every kind of race/culture there. Black, Asian, Hispanic, Caucasian. The point of that? Everybody loves “Levels” no matter who they are or where they come from. All that being said I could very well just be reading too much into an innocent video meant to be a lighthearted break from money/cash/hoes videos we always see. Hit the jump for the video and a small poll. Continue reading
